What an awful story we get from Mark’s Gospel today! It’s awful because of its gruesome nature, to be sure. The head of John the Baptist on a platter. Yuck. But more than that, it’s awful because of the complete lack of integrity or honor present within the story

There is a story told of a bishop who was interviewing a senior seminary student prior to their placement in a first call. “Where do you see yourself serving?” the bishop asked. The seminarian replied “Oh, just about anywhere except New Caanan.”

When my kids were little they loved a children’s book called Home For A Bunny. It’s an old story, originally published in 1956, about a bunny rabbit who is looking for his home in the spring of the year.
