Sara Funkhouser became Luther Memorial’s pastor in June 2022. This is Sara’s first call, and she has loved being a part of this community for over three years! Pastor Sara also serves on the Board for Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Washington and the Synod Council for the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA. She has a deep love of theology and liturgy, especially engaging how these meet us in our daily lives. Some of her teachings are included in the Queer Confirmation curriculum published by the ELCA in 2025.
Sara and her partner Emily moved to Seattle from the Midwest, and they love spending time outside surrounded by the mountains and waters of the PNW. When she isn’t working, Sara enjoys reading, exploring bookstores, biking, playing tennis and pickleball, and supporting the various Seattle sports teams!
