Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – www.elca.org
The ELCA is a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world. Their faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, they practice faith, grow in relationship with God and experience God’s grace in their lives.
With nearly 10,500 congregations across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and nearly five million members—the ELCA welcomes you to experience this church right in your community.
NW Washington Synod – www.lutheransnw.org
Every day members of congregations in the Northwest Washington Synod are making the world a better place. In far reaches of the globe, and right here in our neighborhoods, we reach out to our neighbors who are in need.
Locally our members help the homeless and the hungry by offering lunch and dinner, donating to food banks, hosting Tent City, and by providing transitional housing and personalized support. The Synod Hunger Team encourages congregations to support the ELCA Hunger Appeal and in 2010 our congregations gave $329,563 to the Hunger Appeal. Globally we have developed strong ties to Russia, Ethiopia, Tanzania (Masaii Girls School) and Haiti. We also support the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) vision to end malaria (ELCA Malaria Campaign), ELCA Disaster Response and the Strategy on HIV/AIDS.
Lutheran World Relief – www.lwr.org
Our development projects focus on issues at the root causes of poverty. These debilitating causes tend to domino into more and more problems that trap people in poverty.
By the same token, attacking just one of these issues can help break the cycle, making people’s lives better and freeing them from suffering in many ways.
